Oath of the Gatewatch Previews 1-04

~
Happy Monday MTG peeps,

Well golly.  This is the very first MTG Realm post of 2016.  Our previous post was waaay back, just three days ago on New Year's Eve - and we survived.  Last post we summarised our online efforts with our Magic: the Gathering fan blog over the previous year, and we feel that we will be delivering more great gaming news, opinions, spoilers and previews for another year.

Speaking of previews, we do have a bunch of catching up to do over the last three days with several more Oath of the Gatewatch previews from the mothersite as well as around the interwebs.  Quite specifically, we've been shown the following : Bone Saw, Boulder Salvo, Eldrazi Displacer, Embodiment of Insight, Oath of Gideon, Oath of Nissa , Overwhelming Denial, Pyromancer's Assault, Sifter of Skulls, and Wandering Fumarole.  Unfortunately (as we all have full time day jobs), we're picking just a handful to discuss - so lets go !

Oath of Nissa - Legendary Enchantment costing just G with a nice ETB effect of scratching the top three of your library to put into hand a creature, land, or 'Walker.  The other ability is sweet, allowing you to spend mana as though it were any colour for Planeswalker spells.  Loving this for a modern superfriends build.

Oath of Gideon - the white legendary in the cycle, costing 3W with an ETB of two 1/1 Kor Ally tokens.  The other ability bumps your starting Planeswalkers with an additional loyalty counter - potentially a very powerful thing here.

Wandering Fumarole - the UR manland, coming into play tapped, and animating for an activation of 2UR to deliver a 1/4 elemental critter with a very awesome ability for paying '0' to switch power & toughness.

Corrupted Crossroads - tapping for a colourless mana with an alternate tap, pay one life to add any colour to the pool which you are restricted to spending on devoid spells only.  Thinking of a standard build with a heavy devoid theme ? - you've gotta get at least three of these.

Eldrazi Displacer - a devoid Eldrazi costing 2W with a rather decent activated ability of 2<> to exile a creature and return tapped.

Sifter of Skulls - this devoid Eldrazi loves to sift through its skull collection as well as popping a 1/1 Scion whenever another non-token critter you control takes a dirt nap.

Lastly, we just want to take another moment out to appreciate these damn beautiful card arts for the the cycle of uncommon allied taplands -  :)
